Is VirusArrest compatible with my version of Outlook?
VirusArrest is designed to actively monitor and protect these email
applications:
- Microsoft Outlook 2000
- Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP1
- Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP2
- Microsoft Outlook XP
- Microsoft Outlook XP SP1
VirusArrest currently does not support Outlook Express or other email
applications.
Is VirusArrest compatible with Outlook Security Patches?
Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP2 or later block certain file
attachments that Microsoft has deemed as having potential security risks.
For this reason, some have chosen not to upgrade to the latest service
release or version of Microsoft Outlook. With VirusArrest, you can keep your
older version of Outlook (Outlook
2000 or SP1)
but have added protection against possible malicious email attachments.
VirusArrest also protects Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 users by
providing an extra layer of security to all outbound messages containing
attachments. VirusArrest adds an important and cost-effective and layer of
Defense in Depth to your secure infrastructure..
VirusArrest is completely compatible with custom
security rules often used in Microsoft Exchange Server environments.
If you've customized the list
of Level 1 and Level 2 attachments, we HIGHLY recommend the use of VirusArrest.
Isn't anti-virus software enough to protect me?
Good anti-virus software is essential in protecting your systems and
data from malicious viruses, worms, and trojans. However, given the latest
trends in virus propagation, there is often too much time from when
the fast-spreading virus is launched and the time when new virus definition
files and/or patches are released by the vendor and installed on your personal or corporate
PC. VirusArrest was designed to not only cover this time gap, but to add an
extra layer of protection against known viruses and worms.
See
http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/security/SymantecAdvisories.html for recent
exploits of Norton anti-virus.
Can VirusArrest be disabled by a virus or worm?
Some email viruses and worms may attempt to unload any Outlook COM add-ins before
trying to exploit your address book and sending messages on your behalf.
VirusArrest alerts the user if it detects Outlook attempting to unload it
from memory. VirusArrest cannot be unloaded without user
intervention.
Can you recommend tips to protect against these email viruses and
worms?
- Viruses are frequently spread via email by attached files. Avoid
opening unexpected attachments, even from people you know.
- Use caution when downloading files or programs from the Internet.
Viruses and worms are often spread by infected programs such as
animations, games, and novelty applications.
- Some anti-virus software provides automatic updates of virus
definitions. Always keep your software updated to detect the latest
viruses.
