Background
Latest trends indicate an unprecedented number of new viruses and worms
being introduced to the Internet. Applications such as
anti-virus utilities fail to
offer a complete solution for fighting viruses that use email as their primary
infection mechanism. These
utilities provide protection only against viruses that have been previously
identified and their signature been introduced to the anti-virus utility.
Unfortunately, newer viruses often
spread in just few hours to millions of computers around the world, usually
before anti-virus and software vendors can prepare and distribute new
virus definition files and/or patches.
VirusArrest was designed to not only cover this critical time gap, but to
add an extra layer of protection against known viruses and worms.
The VirusArrest Solution
VirusArrest protects you from new viruses and worms created to exploit
weaknesses in your email systems. VirusArrest actively prevents unauthorized
applications from sending emails on your behalf.
Whenever an application attempts to send an email with an attachment, VirusArrest
displays a
warning message, asking you how
to proceed.
VirusArrest does not look for a specific virus or worm, but rather monitors
for outbound emails for what Microsoft Outlook classifies as an attachment.
The vast majority of email viruses are in the form of file attachments or
special MIME types that are handled as attachments.
Be confident that when a new virus is introduced to the Internet,
VirusArrest will give you time to install anti-virus updates from your current vendor.
VirusArrest is designed to actively monitor and protect these email
applications:
- Microsoft Outlook 2000
- Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP1
- Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP2
- Microsoft Outlook XP (2002)
- Microsoft Outlook XP SP1
- Microsoft Outlook 2003
Note: VirusArrest does not support Outlook Express or other email
applications.
